The hospital director where the protesters were treated, Guadaberto Lara, said most of the dead protesters and dozens of injured were wounded by bullets. Witnesses said the police have shot down protesters, who demanded that former President Morales, now sheltered in Mexico, return to the troubled state.
Thousands of protesters gathered in Saba on Friday morning to protest peacefully. However, violence erupted when part of them tried to pass a checkpoint near the town of Cochabambabe, where supporters of former Moral President and their opponents have clashed for weeks.
Emetherio Colque Sanchez, a 23-year-old student, said he saw the bodies of some protesters who were shot dead.
Former President Morales, who has already provided political asylum in Mexico, said via the social network “Titter” that a massacre occurred in Bolivia and that his country's temporary government is dictatorship.
He was forced to leave his homeland after mass protests against the controversial outcome of the 20 October presidential elections, with which he intended to win the fourth term in the highest state, writes “The Guardian”
