Small amounts of ash fell south of Mexico City because of activity added to the nearby Popocatepetl volcano, Mexican authorities announced today.
The Civil Protection Bureau in Mexico announced that ash had fallen in the southern suburbs of the Mexican capital, Talalpan and Xochimilco.
The announcement reportedly that the casting of ashes will continue and will likely run in the direction of Mexico City, but that the blasts will not be worse than those in recent years, the AP reports.
The Popocatepetl volcano is 5,426 feet [5,426 m] high and stretches 72 miles [72 km] southeast of the Mexican capital.
This volcano was especially active early in the year, but its activity had calmed down.
Some 25 million people live in a space of 60 miles [100 km] from the Popocatepetl volcano.
