Peter Beyer is German Bundestag MP from Angela Merkel's CDU party, and Kosovars remember him from his visit to Pristina when he said visa liberalisation could come as a Christmas present, just around December 25th, the date he even celebrates his birthday.
Beyer was born on December 25, 1970, in Ratigen, Germany. After completing his high schooling in 1991, he also performed military service at the Imperial.
Beyer then studied law at the University of Dusseldorf and Bonn. In 1999 he graduated and was then employed as a legal studio.
Beyer began his career as a lawyer in the Bron & Plat legal studio. He also worked with Brinks, Hoffer, Gilson & Lyons in Chicago and Murchison & Cummming in Los Angeles.
In 2000, he enrolled in a postgraduate law study program at the University of Virginia Law School in Charlottesville and received a Master's degree.
Upon returning to Germany, Beyer continued his career in the Beyer legal studio in Ratingen, where he became one of the country's first officially certified specialists in intellectual property issues.
In 2009, 2013 and 2017, he was elected German Bundestag deputy to represent the citizens of Heiligenhaus, Ratingen, Velbert and Wilfrath.
Beyer is one of the people who promotes and lobbies for a strong relationship with the United States of America and Canada.
He serves as the Parliament's Special Rapporteur for Transatlantic Relations at the Foreign Affairs Commission. He is an active member of several organisations and institutions promoting co-operation with the United States.
Beyer is also deputy chairman of the Southeast European Association.
In April last year, Beyer was appointed Transatlantic Co-ordinator in the German Parliament.
