According to data, there are currently about 140 families waiting to take a child into their family bosom.
All these families, according to the Ministry of Labour and Social Management, are valued as potential foster families.
Musa Demiri, leader of the Public Communication Office at MPMS, has said that 10 cases of local adoption and 2 cases of international adoption have been approved in this year's ninth-month.
“Based on the Nine-month Report of 2019, it turns out that the panel for placing children in family shelter and adoption has examined 19 adoption cases, out of them 10 cases of approved local adoption, 2 cases of internationally approved adoption, and 7 cases of international adoption (family) rejected”, he has said of Indexline.
But these families interested in adopting children have to wait for 9 - 12 months to complete the entire process.
Demiri has said that the reason for the duration of waiting until the realization of the right to adoption is the large number of adoption requirements in relation to the number of abandoned and potential children for adoption, which number is on the decline.
“As far as adoption procedures are concerned, it is not prescribed by law how long the entire process should last. To make our opinion clearer, we explain as follows:
Application at the Foundation Court, completion of documentation according to legal criteria, assessment on the eligibility of the potential adoptive family by the competent QPS, review of the panel's request for putting children in home and adoption (on DPSF), a trial period that can last up to three months, the establishment of adoption, the regulation of civil documents for the child, etc., all of this process ranges from 9 to 12 months;
While, the period of the potential adoptive family waiting recorded in the country's unique General Record, we can never say exactly how long this process can take, because we can never predict how many children will be abandoned, how many of them will remain potential for adoption. The potential adoptive families listed in the General Record are treated according to the application date until it comes in line for the child's proposal”, he has said of the Index.
According to the data in institutional care are 45 children abandoned.
“Based in the 2019 Reference for Abandoned Children Report, results as follows:
35 abandoned children are in the family shelter outside relatives;
6 abandoned children are in the SOS Children's Villages, project “Suni” to house abandoned children by 0-3;
The month of September 19 in the KUN/ QKUK Pristina has closed with four potential children for abandoning”.
