Iran is already facing economic crisis because of the harsh sanctions of the United States following their departure from the 2015 nuclear agreement.
One person was killed during protests in the central city of Sirian. The state news agency reported that police clashed with protesters when they attacked a fuel depot and tried to set it on fire.
There were also other cities, such as the capital Tehan, then Kermanshah, Ishan, Tabriz, Chiraz, Sari, and Yazd. In some cities angry drivers blocked roads by turning off cars and leaving them on the street.
According to new measures, each driver has the right to buy up to 60 liters of gas a month at regular cost, while each extra liter will be sold at a price of 50 percent more. Earlier, drivers were entitled to buy up to 250 liters a month at a regular price.
The government said additional means will be provided to poor families. Iran's president, Hassan Rouhani, said today that 75 percent of Iranians are under pressure and that the money from the rising price of gasoline will go to them, writes “BBC”,
