A 51-year-old woman has become “imprisoned in her body” and is able to communicate with her eyes only after using cocaine.
The unidentified patient, from Maryland, suffered a rare but devastating stroke of the brain, which paralyzed her from head to foot.
She was diagnosed with Exited syndromeSo she can think, see and feel, but she cannot eat, speak, or move her muscles away from her eyes.

The woman in question was sent to the hospital in February 2015 by her boyfriend, having committed disorderly acts and could not speak together. Blood tests revealed that she had high value cocaine in her body and that she had used opium earlier in the day. But her heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature were relatively normal for her age and weight.
She calmed down and was held in a hospital, but when her health woke up, it began to deteriorate. Three days after the accession, she tried to rally the strength to move her limbs, while the fourth day, she offered minimal answers and was able to communicate only with vertical eye movements.
A CT scan revealed that blood no longer flowed through its basylar arteries in the brain, which helps to pump blood around the body.
The team of doctors from Maryland University School of Medicine believes it had a late stroke caused four days after the use of cocaine the first case of this type known for scientific literature.
Although cocaine use is a well - documented contributing factor in the shock, only a small part have led to total paralysis of the body.
Scientists estimate that less than one percent of people with a stroke develop closed syndrome.
