This year 97 citizens lost their lives as a result of the incidents

This was made known by Kosovo Police under the World Victims Memorial Day's footnote in Rrugor Traffic, in co-operation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Security Council on Road Traffic, and the Kosovo Insurance Association.

Lieutenant Colonel Jefin Rexhepi, director of the Communications Division by Kosovo Police, stressed that the cause of fatal accidents is not adapting speed on the road, while adding that it is enough to fine the perpetrators.

Rexhepi confirmed that in order to summarize activities on the note of this international security day, a joint table with the motto “Life is not part of the car”.

Until now, 2513 people have died in Kosovo, it's a disturbing figure, but if we go back to 2019, now we're marking this world day with 10 victims less than the same period last year, it means we have 97m people who lost their lives, and in the past year there were 107. For this reason not because we have a slight decline in accidents, but the goal is through educational or prevention activities, but also through the sensibility of other acts, participants in driver and infantry quality, to influence them gradually to change behaviors in road traffic so that we can have greater security in traffic”, Rexhepi stressed.

Feyzullah Mustafa, from the Council of Security for Traffic in the ministry, said that at the service of this day they have organised activities aimed at boosting awareness of young people.

Feyzullahu, also presenting statistics on accidental deaths in the world, revealed that those who lose their lives most are in middle - income countries, while the most endangered are people between the ages of 19 and 35.

Speaking of the aspect of policies, strategy building and action plan for improving road safety, he said the new strategy should be in co-operation with the European Union, and the strategy actions to be involved in road safety management, protection of drivers, pedestrians and other participants.

When we're in the facts, not only in Kosovo but worldwide are road accidents, based on statistics of the World Health Organization a year, 1.3 million people die in the world, which is disturbing both for us and for the world. Therefore, it is required of all institutions to establish security as the first point in the political agenda. Then, based on international statistics, we have about 50 million people injured”, Mustafa said.

Insurance Association Executive Director Sami Mazrek, showing the importance of marking this day for increasing awareness of the reduction in traffic accidents, said insurance companies have paid 400m euros in damages, 40 million of them only from unintured cars.

In the first six months of this year, companies have paid 22 million damages, which are up by 5.7 per cent compared to the year 2018.

“Complet have introduced for the first time how much the insurance industry from 2001 to 2018 has paid damages, where it is a total of 400m euros in paid damages without including 2019. Of these damages, 40m euros are from unsured and unregistered vehicles. Then, another issue that is not related to the subject today is police without health insurance. In the previous number, we have an exposure of damages paid by January-June 2018 and compared to 2019, where in the first six months alone, insurance companies have paid 22m euros in damages that are increasing 5.7 per cent compared to last year”, Mazreku said.

Emergency Clinic Director in SKKKUK, Basri Lenyan, speaking of this disturbing phenomenon of accidents in Kosovo, said 3 thousand and 806 cases of accidents have been handled at QKUKU or 97 cases have increased compared to last year.
