Vuciq prays to the Germans for the 1.4 billion-dollar Volkswagen factory: We give you cash.

Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, hosted Germany's Economy and Energy Minister Peter Altmaier and the main topic following the withdrawal of Volkswagen from Turkey was exactly the new German giant's investment site. Vucic was persistent that better than you can find in Serbia, even if Vucic offered you the minister [...]
Vucic welcomed Minister Altmayer in the afternoon, where two bilateral agreements were signed in co-operation in economy and education.
Despite his praise to himself and the Germans for all the agreements reached and all the attention was on the summer theme in Serbia, the factory of German giant Wolfgang. Race between several Balkan states like Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia was lost after Turkey was elected. This last state has a lot of disagreement with the Germans, the last invasion of Syria resulted in the withdrawal of billions of investment. Now the Balkan race is back.
Vucic was persistent that Serbia could offer Wolfgang the best conditions for investment from all Balkan countries together, and added that Serbia would continue to fight for the construction of that factory.
We saw that some countries have increased their offers for investors, and our offer is much greater in terms of subsidies. And we will always offer more. Even cash, but Europe won't allow us. Are we likely because we are not members of the EU, that makes Germany decide? They can't all offer conditions like Serbia, there are other things here, but you understand me”.
Excited Vucic added that Serbia has already offered the highest prime state aid before, 258.5m euros.
Germany's Economy and Energy Minister, Peter Altmaier, will also visit Bulgaria these days. Bulgaria is the other country that was in the race and was now considered the main candidate country. They have put up the Volkswagen bid of 135m euros to 250m to 260m euros.
As tempting as it may seem, the new offer does not automatically mean that the VW will now use the second “option” Bulgaria. Bulgaria's priorities are low taxes and EU membership. However, the latter is precisely the reason why this country cannot provide the VW direct state subsidies.
