Rector Ejup Statovci remembered on 20th anniversary of his separation from life

Ejup Statovci, the Rector who led the University of Pristina in a very difficult period for Kosovo, was remembered today as an intellectual of continued commitment to the University of Pristina and freedom of Albanians.

At the memorial hour organised by the Pristina Students' Parliament, Professor Avdullah Aliu, associate of the Rector Statovci, said his friend also committed himself to activities aimed at equality.

According to him, Professor Statovci, with his role at the University of Pristina and his ongoing work marked history.

He said Statovci took responsibility for starting the learning process under extraordinary conditions, accepting the sector post in 1991 to 97, staying at the university's top at the most difficult time for him and for Kosovo.

“Professor Statovci miraculously entered the complex world of justice, worshipped scientific work by revealing all its secrets, optimism and enthusiasm for scientific and national work were present until the end of his life. His professional and scientific creativity has an authority and did not change in view of political complications, Professor Statovci as a noted professor in his literature, also contributed to the affirmation of new frameworks by helping in post-diplodic studies and doctors. Professor Statovci, as a writer and professor, also engaged in activities aimed at equality, the freedom of Albanians and the independence of Kosovo”, he said.

Aliu said Professor Statovci has always committed his obligations with responsibility, even though he has gone through many challenges because of working under Serbia's occupation.

Myrvette Badivuk, professor at Pristina University, said Professor Statovci remains an example for all.

“Pictures as Professor Statovci are among those for whom history preserves specific pages, honour for them. For all who had the chance to get to know Professor Statovci, he presented the figure of an intellectual who not only shared his knowledge of students but was close to them, was close to the university and the entire population, thus leading to the most necessary and positive changes that took place in our country, right in the most difficult times”, she said.

He cited Statovci's statement: “University is with students and students are at the University”, which he said breathes today into the UP's ideology.

After the memorial hour, there were also homazhes near Professor Ejup Statovci's grave in the Velania district in Pristina.
