Stevo Pendarovski, the president of Northern Macedonia, has said his aim is to start negotiations on the country's EU membership.
He at the Southeast European Peace Summit in Tirana has declared that European values must prevail on populist values, Kosovo reports.
“I want to start the speech with this, these days Albania and Northern Macedonia face a situation that requires our personal and professional attention, and this can bring our frustration and to our partners, the lack of setting a date for starting negotiations with northern Macedonia and Albania, as well as the lack of visa removal for Kosovo has potential to undermine support for European values in our states”
So we have experience to avoid negative trends by continuing to send our societies based on European values, I believe that the democratisation of states in the region should increase interoperability between political elites and in all spheres produce a lasting peace in the region and for the more powerful democratic and economic development where it will result in a greater interaction with our countries”.
European “Vlerta must win over populist values and this kind of narrative we need to create an atmosphere of trust and friendship to help us make problems realistically”.
“I will work to start negotiations with the EU as some of our neighbouring countries do a few years ago, I am confident that only if we manage to make peace then will it be the goal of all politicians for peace in the country”, Pendarovski said.
