The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo has expressed deep concern over the sharing of the award to Austrian writer Peter Handke, supporters of Slobodan Milosevic, accused of genocide and crimes against humanity in Kosovo and other units of the former Yugoslavia.
In a media communique, MPJ has demanded that the same person receive the prize.
This minister has asked the Swedish Academy to review the grant of the Nobel Prize for Literature to a man who may be a genius as a writer, but who in public life has shown denial of human rights by publicly appearing on the side of someone who later died in The Hague as accused by the International War Crimes Tribunal.
The Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, the world-run institution, shares the prestigious Nobel Prize for various fields based on professional, moral and ethical assessment. However, we judge that this time the price has been given to the wrong man, the deniers of genocide”, it is said in response.
Petar Handke's name in Kosovo is synonymous with evil, a supporter of a chauvinist power. Prices that divide such a person downplay the efforts of democratic societies for a peaceful world. No academic institutions, no Swedish Academy. In the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, Chapter I I, Rights and Foundation Freedoms, Article 21, Point 3 says: Everyone is obligated to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms of others. Therefore, based on our Constitution, the people of Kosovo can at least have no respect for Mr. Handke, and he feels insulted that the price was shared with the man who once wished him hell”, says this communique.
