Up to 100,000 tonnes of food in Macedonia end up in trash, while some 460 thousand people within the country do not provide three meals per day.
According to the association's data “Site”, it says most trees and local production vegetables are dumped. This phenomenon is presented in global areas where some 820 million people in the world are hungry, according to data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
At the moment, more than 800 million people are hungry in the world, while our state unfortunately belongs to countries where not every citizen has enough food to feed for himself and his family. Besides, it's not only about the amount of food, it's about quality. The predictions are still more serious. With the impact of climate conditions on agricultural productivity and irregular exploitation of natural resources, in the coming decades an estimated 2 billion people in the world are expected to be without the feeding of” said Rosana Dujak, the United Nations's special co-ordinator in Macedonia.
Although the number of people who fail to consume the right diet is disturbing, the number of overweight people is growing, writes Alsat-M.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization considers that the issue lies not only with the abundance of food but with importance is their quality and consumption, for it is not always necessary just to have food for consumption.
This year, the World Food Day focuses on raising collective awareness of the importance of producing healthy food with the aim of implementing global goal “Zero hunger”
