The state of the world: Who really are the Kurds?

Throughout the past week, Syria's Kurds were at the centre of international news after changing American politics that abandoned them from Northern Syria and left them in front of Turkish fire. A single phone call between US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan is said to have ended the whenever-American alliance in Syria that in the past five years had successfully fought the Islamic State. [ ISIS].

Out of this relentless war, 11,000 Turkish fighters had found death, but the end was successful, since I The SIS had lost all the land it managed.

Kurdish forces had searched the camp where I fighters were held SIS with their family members, but Turkish attacks made the situation a real mess.

Last night it was reported that in a desperate attempt to escape Turkish aggression, Kurds had joined an alliance with Syria, an alliance supported by Russia as well, Periscopi writes.

But who really are the Kurds?

Their centuries-old effort for an independent state was much like Kosovo's centuries-old effort. Yet, the fate of this ethnic group turns to be much blacker.

The total population of Kurds reportedly totals 45 million. In Turkey alone, there are over 15 million Turks, then in Iran about 10 million, in Iraq about 7, in Syria about 4 and in Germany of 1.2 million to 1.5 million.

Kurds are an Iranian ethnic group that extends to the mountainous region of western Asia, also known as Kurdistan. They speak their Kurdish language. Most of them belong to the Muslim religion, to the main Sun sect, but they're short of Alevis and rain as well.

Their story is older than it can be believed. The Kurdish Land” has been mentioned since the sumer, 5,000 years ago.

During the medieval period, many principalities of the Kurdish dynasty were formed, ruling over Kurdista or in nearby ladies.

However, Kurdish nationalism emerged only after the first world war, with the disappearance of the Ottoman Empire, which had successfully integrated them but not assimilated them.

In 1970, Kurdish nationalism evolved through Marxist political thought that inspired the new generation of Kurdish nationalists who opposed local feudal authorities. In 1978, Kurdish students would form a separatist military organisation called The PKK [Kurdistan Workers' Party], but which would later abandon Marxism-lenism.

Kurds are considered the largest ethnic group in the world without a state. However, the Kurdish claim for their “citizenship has been rejected by some scholars, such as Martin Van Bruinessen and others who agree with Turkey's official position. They argue that even though a level of cultural, social, political and ideological heterogenity of Kurds exists, the Kurdish community has flourished over the centuries as a peaceful and well integrated community in Turkish society, with hostility that emerged only in recent years.

Among the Kurds known in the world, we are mentioning only some like Abdullah Ocalan, Ali Hariri, Ibrahim Tatlises, Eren Derdiyaok, Mahmoud Dahoud, Servet Cetin, etc. /Periscope
