Johnson said the proposals made public by the Irish national broadcaster RTE, which said Great Britain had suggested setting customs points on the border, were not the right ones.
They're not talking about the proposals we're going to make. They're talking about some things that happened earlier”, Johnson stressed.
Ireland's Foreign Affairs Minister, Simon Coveney, said the reported plan would not succeed.
The idea of customs points placed away from the border, which has been supported by pro-Brex deputies in Johnson's Conservative Party, developed as an alternative to the so-called <x0-bakstop”, to ensure an open border with Ireland after Brexit.
Brussels and Dublin say the alternative agreement is essential to keep the border open between the EU member Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, as well as to preserve a peace agreement on British-managed territory.
The Republican Irish Party, Sinn Fei, declared the proposals published were absurd.
There can be no border in Ireland. Backstop is the maximum there can be”, Sinn Fei wrote on the social Twitter network.
