Kosovo's incumbent Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj has attended the sixth Conference of Mediation in Istanbul at the invitation of Turkey's Foreign Ministry, where he has met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
Hoxhaj has reported on Facebook that during a brief conversation he had there with the UN chief has told him that Kosovo must become a member of the UN as soon as possible, in order to have stability and security in the Western Balkans.
“I also stated that UNMIK's presence in Kosovo is currently unnecessary, because these resources should be used in conflict areas, not in a politically stable and secure country such as Kosova”.
At the conference, where I was with Minister Mahir Yağcılar, I also met Turkish Foreign Minister Mevluüt Cavuşoğlu. Organising such a conference plays an important role in building and preserving peace”, he wrote on Facebook.
