Hahn: The decision on negotiations is influenced by internal issues

European Commissioner for Enlargement Johannes Hahn is not pessimistic about opening membership negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia. He still believes in reaching a compromise of member states, even though his opinion will affect domestic affairs. “Member States decisions are often influenced and inspired by [...] issues
The decisions of member states are often influenced and inspired by the internal issues of these countries. That's also about appreciation for Albania, so we have to explain, convince, see from a wider prism. If green light is given for only one of the two countries, it will be a mess, because there will be negative consequences for stability in the region regarding different ethnic interests or tensions between them”.
For Hahn, partitioning the European Union's decision-making for Albania and Macedonia would be a very big political mistake.
The two countries' division has been discussed this week not much in public, but as an opportunity to consider. For me it would be a very big political mistake”.
Hahn says dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo cannot develop without the EU, as there is an impact on all European prospects. According to him, with the start of the mandate of the new European Commission team, Josef Borrell will cost this issue a special significance, but should be expected to form the Kosovo government. /tv clan/
