Firefighters in Pec: Fires are on purpose

The biggest fires were in Stankaj, Decani's Griquette, and Rugova Mountains.

Kapllan Nikqi, chief of the Fire Operations in Pec, said over the phone that fires were deliberately lit.

Fires are on purpose. They're a certain group that did these. I don't know why they're on. These people were professionally lit without a trace, because the fires were not lit on either the road or the river below “said Nikci

Nikqi stressed that these fires have involved the area of up to 5,000m.

The damage, according to him so far, has amounted to 30 per cent of the small halo forest.

The fire is spreading into a 5,000-foot line around the area. We've managed so far to save 70 percent of the forest, and 30 percent of the small mountain forest --” said Nikci.

The number two firefighters in Pec added that besides their teams, there are several residents of the areas, the Forest Agency and police.

He said that even in the coming days, they will be committed to controlling the fire.

We have 40 firemen engaged. Among them are local residents, Forest Agency and Police. It is a challenge to manage work at this rate. But we have it under control. We'll still be committed to extinguishing the fire in these”- Nikci.

Nikci claimed that there are no injuries or property damage to the residents.

Otherwise, police have warned of these cases.
