Failure with negotiations: Without twenty-four hours, Cakaya at second conference

Without filling up 24 hours from the joint conference with Albania's prime minister, Edi Rama, Gent Cakaj, acting foreign minister, reports he will again appear before the media. The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has announced that Cakaj will be released today at 11:30 at a news conference. We remember that the minister [...]
We remember that the minister was also present at the conference held yesterday by Rama, but that he was unable to make a statement.
The prime minister at the conference said the decision not to open negotiations does not view his government as a failure, but refers to it as a result of the European Union's internal problems. Voices within the political spectrum require at least the minister's resignation to maintain a moral responsibility.
Cakaj reacted yesterday to his account in “Facebook” saying: “The lack of consensus on the Council for the immediate opening of membership negotiations with Albania is not the result of controversial interpretations regarding the country's progress, but the result of different visions of structural reform of the European Union in general.
While there is no absolute deal to start membership talks with Albania and Northern Macedonia, there is full compliance that the two countries have met all conditions presented in the June 2018 conclusions.
In spite of that, Albania will continue its reform commitments and further efforts in the service of the European aspirin”. /Tch
