Daka retaliates to Djuric: CEC directives are binding for commissioners

Central Election Commission Chairman Valdete Daka has reacted to statements by the director of the so-called Office for Kosovo in Serbia's Government, Marko Djurovic, who has said that commissioners at the resort in all Serb majority municipalities will recognise all documents for identification. CEC Chairman Valdete Daka has [...]

CEC Chairman Valdete Daka has said that the guidelines approved in the CEC are binding for all, and that all commissioners who will not respect the document's access to identification documents will have judicial consistency.

According to her, Kosovo citizens will only vote with identifying documents of the Republic of Kosovo.

I especially reminded all commissioners and everyone in the Republic of Kosovo that CEC instruction is mandatory for using documents for identification, so on Election Day as ID documents will be used what was mentioned in the instruction. At the same time, all commissioners who do not follow this directive will have consistency, and those decisions will have judicial consistency depending on what happens at those locations”, Daka said.

While CEC member from the Vetevendosje Movement Adnan Rrustemi said Belgrade through the Serbian List is putting pressure on and blackmailing Serbian citizens living in Kosovo and Serb political subjects in the race in the 6 October elections.

Rrustem has called on security institutions in Kosovo to be more active and create a good environment for all political parties to develop their electoral activity in a democratic spirit.

The entire political and electoral atmosphere in municipalities in the majority from the Serb community to the south and the north is of concern, obviously being violated by political pluralism and the right of each citizen to manifest his political beliefs and by violating the free activity of other political subjects by the same electoral community. It's a shame the same scenario is repeating and the same pressure as in the 2017 election. ...On the part of Belgrade and unfortunately through the Serbian List pressure and direct blackmail against Serbian citizens and other Serbian subjects to prevent free elections”, he said.

Meanwhile, CEC member from the Vetevendosje Movement Ilir Gashi said the Serbian community should be immune to these efforts from Belgrade, until it stressed that the CEC will be vigilant over any possible situation.

The “didn't even give the Serb community the honor of trying to breach the process I don't want to believe it will be to that extent, but it's natural that as an institution I will go into line with the laws, rules that it has imposed against this process. Our mechanisms will protect every citizen's vote to the end, and I think that the community itself, the Serb community itself will have to be immune to efforts to encroach on the right of the choice itself. We will be alert to any possible situation, and we will carry out our duties and obligations based on the law and the rules that we have set for”, Gashi said.

Accredited by 432 other observers at this Central Election Commission meeting, where the total number of observers is 34 thousand 435 observers.
