He has dismissed controversial public statements that it was Baton Haxhiu who made him minister in Edi Rama's cabinet.
My “has informed me of Albania's prime minister, Edi Rama, the current chief of the prime minister's cabinet. I had some preliminary meetings with him, I had active communication with the prime minister's cabinet. The moment I got Albanian citizenship, I worked actively with the prime minister's office. Rama has appointed me a national co-ordinator for developing, and I was the deputy minister responsible for integration. Based on my performance, Prime Minister Rama has decided to entrust the task of minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Never has the Kosovo issue been in question for me, nor has the former minister been removed. In the interview given in 2018, where I'm supposed to have supported the idea of exchanging territories, I say that if such an agreement is the prefix for all the achievements in the Western Balkans, then it shouldn't have happened”, Cakay said.
He further explains his statements in this interview, stressing that he has rejected the idea of changing Kosovo's borders.
I say afterwards that changes of borders in the region should be formally excluded. Then I say I use the opportunity to be critical of the idea of changing borders, and I will not support such an agreement. I mentioned Romania and other countries. My first public statement in life was at Blendy Fevziu, in February 2018, I was the opponent of this idea, so for the exchange of territories”, Minister on duty Cakaj further said.
Referring to charges that he served against Kosovo's interests and against national interests, Cakaj says that while the charges are in office and the charges are made in, “cannot speak while I am in office, because I have limited communication”.
Says Albanian President Ilir Meta, in his decree where he has opposed his appointment to the minister's post, “has brought out my statements on changing borders” out of context.
I've done the analysis, but I haven't taken a stand. While it has been spoken of in exchange for borders of northern Kosovo and taking Presevo, I have said that the term, except that it is linguistic relativism, is no longer conceived as a major change of territories between Kosovo and Serbia, but there is a tendency to present it as a natural process of changing borders. If such a sentence has grounds to present me as a servant for the division of Kosovo, at best it is the indictee, and in the worst case, maliciousity, but may be both. Anyone who wanted to, whether because of jealousy or personal resentment, who intended to put me in the service of this agenda or was malicious or ignorant”, the potential Cakaj.
