BBC writes on the case of the girl's rape from Drenas: 6 people under indictment

Kosovo prosecutors have charged six people over allegations that they have sexually violated a teenager from Drenas. The event has shaken the state from the Balkans.

The teenager is said to have been abused by her teacher and then by a policeman for two years at the time she was 16.

Prosecutors have opened the case after reports in local media, including Periscopi.

Police said in February that they had arrested the teacher, police and gynecologist who had performed an illegal abortion on the young girl.

Kosovo's president, Hashim Thaci, had described the case at the time as <x0-tragic”.

The case had provoked much anger among the people of Kosovo, leading to women's fair protests outside the Kosovo Police Office in Pristina.

On Wednesday, prosecutors said there were six suspects, including the teacher and police.

They were charged “over the suspicion that they had committed sexual abuse and abuse of power,” said prosecutors.

The girl is said to have been first violated by her teacher in 2017.

When she reported the case to the police, the girl is taught that she was repeatedly violated by the police official who had the duty to investigate her claims.
