Apostolova: Without fighting corruption, no visa liberalisation

At the opening of the new academic year of the International Business College in Mitrovica, EU chief in Kosovo Natalia Apostolova has spoken of free movement in the Schengen area of Kosovo citizens. From there, she has again stressed that fighting corruption and organised crime is the necessary condition for liberalisation [...]

It has also advised that the education system in Kosovo be empowered on the basis of transparency and stability and appointments to education centres be done through the selection process.

Well, as I said, fighting corruption and organised crime because they are essential values to the European Union... You know exactly what it's like to suggest for visas, and you lose some chance of going somewhere because of visas. What could my advice be... Because education here has been denied, you can learn it from your parents, but what is important now in this new democracy, but now the education system should be established on the basis of transparency and stability. And what I want to see in these appointments in management and leadership in education centres is done through a proper selection process. We don't want to see nepotism in the education sector because the political impact in these sectors is a crime and we can't let this pride of young Kosovo people ruin it ourselves because one day you will compete in the labour market with the entire European market “, she said.

The EU chief in Kosovo, Natalia Apostolova, as she spoke of the IBCM College, said this institution aims to bring EU values to Kosovo, a quality education that prepares young people for the labour market, in accordance with the Balkan region by drawing young people of different communities and pushing them into collaboration in particular forms.

According to her, this college from the European Union has been supported by 2.4m euros in order for this educational institution to play a key role in educating young people in the future. The director of the International Business College in Mitrovica (IBCM), Harry Tuomola, said this college has a model that links the teaching aspect to the practice of business and agricultural professions.

He also said that he feels good that over 80 percent of the college students have provided employment.

“Requests for immediate and sustainable development in Kosovo's business and agricultural professions and in the region. The current generation in the workplace should offer solutions to the challenges of society as they are: Environmental degradation, sustainable development. Responding to these challenges, students who enroll in IBCM want not only jobs but also careers that offer opportunities to contribute to these pressing issues. We are proud to have one of the few colleges a professorial model, virtually with experience that offers opportunities and connections to industry, public administration, environmental protection, international marketing, economic and statistics, which are just some of the areas we offer “, he said.
