The president said that “Kevin McAlean has done a tremendous job as a National Security Secretary's task officer and that he wants “to spend more time with his family and work in the private sector”.
President Trump said he will announce the name of the new task leader next week and has “many wonderful candidates”.
Mr. McAleenan took office as acting secretary in April after the resignation of former Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, becoming the fourth person to lead the department in two years.
McAlean, a career official in the field of rule of law, monitored President Trump's blows on undocumented immigrants over six months of work as acting secretary.
During his mandate, McAlean presented several initiatives to reduce the influx of migrants to the border between the United States and Mexico. They included allowing American officials to stop migratory families with children for longer periods of time and working with Central American countries to create agreements under which housing seekers would apply for housing in Central America rather than the United States.
He is criticised by some of the president's supporters that he was not loud enough in promoting the policies of immigration and President Trump's rhetoric.
Before serving as incumbent secretary of National Security, McAleenan ran customs and border security in the United States. / VoA/
