An island with no cars in Iceland with only six permanent residents has been named the best in the world.
The island of Flatty, located on the northwest coast of Iceland and is only about two miles [2 km] long, has managed to top the “Big 7 Travel” list for the top 50 islands of 2020.
The assessment of the selection of the best island is based on a combination of readers' votes, from earlier media coverage, but also from experiences of its staff travel.
Although Flatey is quite silent in the winter, the number of visitors reaches as many as 9,000 during the summer months, where people go to stay in summer homes and enjoy the small population.
There are more than 35 species of birds on this island, while nature worshipers can observe 150 species of flowers or plants, as well as whales that have been spotted on the shore.
There's only one hotel on the island. It only opens during three months of summer.
The island is known for its lonely beauty and library, which is built in 1864 and is the oldest in Iceland.
