A third of the workers in the United Nations have been reported to have faced sexual harassment in the past two years, given some findings published following the conduct survey of the first in this organisation, broadcast AFP.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has told the staff in a letter that some “states serious and data in the study must be changed” in order to improve the work environment at the UN.
One in three residences, or 33 percent, has been reported to have faced at least once sexual harassment, but that figure has increased to 38.7 percent when there have been those who have faced such harassment during the time of the organization's environments.
The most frequent way of sexual harassment has been through stories or jokes that have been described offensive.
UN workers have also said to have been targeted at attempts to engage in such discussions, as well as the target of offensive gestures and touch, is said in the survey conducted by Deloitte in November.
Two of the three molesters were men, and one in four of them had high positions.
Guterres has earlier pledged to practice zero-tolerance policy on these harassments.
Last month, the chief of the UN Agency for HIV Disease, Michel Sidibe, has resigned from the position he held after a review of his leadership has been noted to have created an environment where harassment, including sex, were present. /rel
