But beauty along with them is now standing in one of the safe houses in Kosovo. She has managed to escape from her husband, who has been practicing systematic violence against her and their three children.
Although more time has spent in her family, fleeing violence, difficult economic conditions have moved her to seek help in one of these safe homes.
“has been constantly practicing violence on me. He mostly beat me with a belt. The children too were severely beaten. Sometimes he would leave home and not come back for days because he loved his nightlife and left us without food at home. I forcedly went to my family because I didn't work and had no money to buy food. I have small children, and they needed both food and many other things”, she relates.
She says that the young girl was born at home with the help of a family, since her husband has not allowed her to go to the hospital to perform her delivery under professional care.
My sister-in-law came to my house and helped me give birth to the girl I'm eight months old now. It has not allowed me to go to the hospital to be born, only to be tortured as much as I could, she points out.
Beauty says that he had announced the police several times the violence being exercised by her husband, indicating also that he was arrested but usually released after 48 hours.
So, as she says, seeing police inefficiency, she has decided to take refuge in one of the safe houses.
Sakibe Dolin, housing consultant “The safe house” in Gjakova tells Radio Free Europe that the number of women seeking refuge in safe homes throughout Kosovo is 10 per cent greater than last year. According to her, the reason why this is happening may be linked to the fear that women who experience violence have for their lives.
This year, compared to the same period last year, the number of women in shelters has increased by 10 percent. The cause is linked to fear because of cases that have occurred after women's deaths. Especially the last case in Gjakova (when the man had killed his wife and daughter). So they have also taken the courage to report on violence and have chosen shelters to be safer, in front of their family”, let Dolly know.
In Kosovo there are a total of ten nongovernmental accommodations and one led by the Ministry of Labour and Social Management, where about 100 women are housed annually. There, mainly, victims of domestic violence and trafficking are housed.
But the care budget for these victims over the years remains flawed. Victims of sexual violence, domestic or trafficking violence, for lack of budget, are not finding treatment for reintegration in society.
For the nine months of this year, as much as the law authorities have data, more than 1,130 cases of domestic violence have been reported, in which most victims are female.
However, 34 cases of murder have occurred in Kosovo over the past ten years, where women have been victims.
Lack of institutional protection for victims of domestic violence has caused women to undergo abusive marriages over the years, because in most cases women after divorce have no right to property.
