The United States issued a warning to Iran Thursday against the planned launch of three missiles, which would violate a UN Security Council resolution regarding ballistic missile activity.
State Secretary Mike Pompeo said Iran has announced plans to launch three rockets in the coming months, which it calls “Space Years”, missiles that according to him are built with ballistic technology.
The United States will not stand to see the regime's destructive Iranians and policies, while putting international stability and security at risk. We advise the Iranian regime to review these provocations and halt all activities related to ballistic missiles in order to avoid deep economic and diplomatic isolation”, Mike Pompeo said.
According to Mr. Pompeo, launching these missiles would violate UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which supports the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers. In May, President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the nuclear agreement with Iran.
According to the U.S. Secretary of State, since the UN resolution was adopted, Iran has launched a number of ballistic missiles. Tehran says its spatial programme is peaceful, but Western experts suspect it could be a cover for the production of rockets with combat technology.
