Winters with extremely low temperatures are normal for Chicago, but weather forecasters say residents may face the lowest temperatures ever recorded in the city on Wednesday.
At Minneapolis temperatures are expected to reach minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit [- 40 ° C] in Chicago at minus 30 degrees, but by calculating the smell in Chicago, temperatures feel as if they were minus 46 degrees Celsius.
So far, at least four deaths are reported as a result of freezing weather.
The cold air has spread from North Central America to the eastern coast and parts of Florida that lies south of the country.
