US Secretary of Defense's cabinet chief Kevin Sweney resigned, the American media reported, referring to a statement from the Pentagon.
After two years at the Pentagon, I decided it was the right time to return to the private sector. It was an honor to serve with men and women at the Ministry of Defence”, Sueney said. He commemorates that Defence Secretary Jim Mattis has served since January 2017, resigned in December last year, following President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw about 2,000 American troops from Syria.
It has been confirmed that in the letter he resigned, Mattis does not mention Trump by name, but pointed to major differences in the positions between him and the president, especially when it comes to the importance of allies and the use of the American Army.
Mattis was initially announced he would leave the post in late February, but Trump on December 23rd indicated that Patrick Shenahan will be the secretary's task of defence on January 1st. The resignation in late December also gave the Pentagon's spokeswoman, Dana White, who was replaced last Tuesday by Charles Summers, Jr. /Periscopi
