In Turkey, more and more people are turning their backs on religion. Recent polls show that the number of atheists has increased and the blame for this should be sought, according to experts, in Erdogan's policies.

The conservative religious circles in the country claim that Turkish society is made up 99% of Muslims.

Even the Ministry of Religious Affairs DYANET, in data published in 2014, said 99.2% of Turkey's population is declared Muslim.

But the survey carried out by the prestigious Institute for Opinion Research, Konda, shows that the number of people who call themselves atheists is more and more.

Given the Institute's data, the number of atheists has tripled over the past 10 years, while the percentage of those claiming to be Muslims has fallen from 55 to 51 %. Technology researchers say that Islam is more than just a ritual.

Whether a person is religious or not, this should also depend on his ethnic affiliation or the values it represents. If we look at it only because of the practice of faith, then in Turkey are only about 60 %s of people”, they say.

Erdogan aims to pressure people to accept that kind of faith, so many have turned away from religion, says Celine ãozko, chairman of the association of atheists, who adds that one of the reasons why the surveys show these numbers today is that Turks are getting braver, and are claiming atheists. /tch/
