Militants have attacked a checkpoint in the Afghan province of Kandahar, killing seven border guards, officials said.
Four others have also been injured during the attack on Spin Bolduk County, a spokesperson for the provincial governor said.
In the armed clash that took place on 4 January, 16 rebels have been killed and 11 others have been injured, spokesman Ahmad Azazi said.
No one has so far claimed responsibility for this attack.
The Kandahar attack comes at the time when the Taliban almost every day conduct attacks on Afghan security forces.
Violence in Afghanistan has marked increases despite efforts by the United States of America to negotiate the end of the 17-year war in this country. /rel
