The European Parliament has recognised self-declared interim President Juan Guaido as head of state, adding pressure to the resignation to Nicolas Maduros, writes Periscope.
EU politicians voted 429 in favour of 104 against and 88 abstentions, at a special session in Brussels during today to recognise Guaido as interim president.
In a statement, the 28-government bloc requires that Guaido be known as temporary and only legitimate president in the country” until there are new “selectives, transparent and creditable”.
But this is a drastic violation against the principle of free elections since Venezuela has a elected leader and its name is Nicolas Maduro. On the other hand, Juan Guaido has not won a single vote.
Britain, France, Germany and Spain said on Saturday they would recognise Guaido unless Maduro announces elections within eight days. /Periscopi
