And the first debate that took place in this context was “Gjinia and people with special needs”, where people with special needs are continuing to face a host of challenges on a daily basis.
In that case, EU Office chief Ramush Haradinaj said that at meetings with Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, she has put forth the need for the budget for housing of women who are affected by domestic violence, where she added that they have found consensus for it.
She disclosed that 129 female women are victims of family violence that were reported in Kosovo between January (January 4th), September 2018.
“We are interested in social decision-making and strengthening them throughout society. The EU office is dedicated to this issue and only this year we will launch a project of 600 thousand euros for gender equality. People with special needs face challenges on a daily basis, the problem with access to public organs, education and so on. From the community of people with special needs and who are women, they face double discrimination”, she said.
The ombudsman, Hilmi Jashari, said that despite the good reports released, there is a lack of implementation of this institution's recommendations.
“Logging remains zero, not only in the field of equality, but also in other areas. Kosovo's Assembly must first be activated to keep its account. In Kosovo it is an important moment to review the system, as systems in the country are generating consequences”, he stressed.
Elvana Shala, an ambassador of goodwill in Kosovo, said people with special needs face numerous challenges in many spheres.
While Habit Hajredini from the Office for Good Governance said that despite progress, greater institutional support is needed.
Naim Dumnica of Handikos said that disabled people are facing numerous challenges, both in schooling and employment. And according to her, with disabled women, there is also the problem of inheritance on property.
