Luigi Soreca, European Union Ambassador to Tirana, said today that the fight against organised crime is one of the key points that will affect the European Union's decision to open negotiations in June.
Presented at the conference organised by the Ministry of Justice in co-operation with the Antimafias Prosecutor in Italy, Sorica said he expects the seizure of real estate.
“Confiscating illegal assets is important in preventing the fight against organised crime and corruption. Without an efficient action, preventing real estate risk for a country's legal economy to be attacked is very high.
Intervention in the precautionary sector is fundamental. It is important that Albanian authorities also experiment and improve their activity in the preventive sector.
The operation of confiscating illegal property in Albania is in the beginning, and we expect final decision seizures and also a significant signal of progress this country is making in fighting organised crime and corruption.
I'm here to show the importance this subject has for the European Union. In June of this year, the European Union will make an important decision on negotiations with Albania. One of the key priorities under which this decision will be made are the very concrete results that Albania will achieve in the fight against organised crime and corruption,”- Sorica said.
