After having been exiled to the United States in 1973, Tafilaj is an active activist of the Albanian community in America and the Balkans.
He has sponsored over 100 Albanian students and from various parts of the world, many of whom have lived in his home.
In late 1980, he made clear to the United States the necessity to support Kosovo and establish a democratic party, which today is the Democratic League of Kosovo.
Tafilaj has been chairman of the International Committee of the Northwest Houston Economics, a powerful organisation that developed business ties with Kosovo. He has also served on management boards of many industries, including health, banking and education.
After honoring him with the Award for Life - Making, in his letter US President Donald Trump thanked Mr. Tafilaj for his commitment to helping people in need.
You have served as a model of the American soul. The many hours of your service have strengthened the bonds of cooperation and the confidence that draws people closer to each other, while helping to solve some of the greatest challenges of our time”, says the letter.
