CEC expected to be completed soon by Thaci, ready for upcoming elections

While the president does not appoint the new members of the Central Election Commission, this institution is out of office. The CEC chairman Valdete Daka gives that assessment over and over again.

The president's Bureau for Information has told Radio Kosovo that after accepting nominations from parliamentary groups for members of the CEC and verifying their documentation, the Legal Department has noted unpacked documentation to some of them and has requested additional documentation. In writing response from this office it is said that once the documentation is completed, the president will decree new members of the CEC.

Radio Kosovo finds that such President Thaci is expected to do after returning from the US, where he will participate in morning prayer. What remains unclear so far is whether the president will also appoint parliamentary groups' proposals formed after the Assembly's institution, or just parliamentary groups' proposals stemming from the elections. This is actually the main problem that has caused the CEC to remain blocked for a year now.

However, there are various opinions within the CEC regarding the functioning of the CEC. Ilir Gashi, who represents The PDK in the CEC, says that even though new members have not been appointed, whenever elections are announced they can be organised by the CEC and for this, take example the 2013 and 2014 elections.

“In the same judicial state that we have today, we have held two sides of the elections in the Republic of Kosovo and have released the country's institutions”, Gashi has told Radio Kosovo.

But Mazlum Baralius, who once led him The CEC, you're thinking differently.

“The real and current state of the KEC's dominant structure is out of the mandate. Which means it's beyond the ability to decide. So, decision-making can't be in the CEC. It is blocked, because simply those people are out of mandate”, Baraliu has told Radio Kosovo.
