Cuba's former president, Raul Castro, has charged the US that they have returned to austerity policies. Castro, who is still chairman of the Communist Party, has given a long speech on the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, launched by his brother Fidel Castro.
In his speech he told the citizens of Cuba to prepare for any kind of scenario to protect their independence, declaring that the revolution has no age. The Castro brothers ruled Cuba by their rules from 1959 to 2018.
Raul Castro handed the post to President Miguel Diaz-Canel early last year. Relations between Cuba and the US had a heating in the period of the Obama administration, but under the Trump government, the tough policy line has long resumed.
In 2017, President Trump restored certain restrictions regarding travel and trade that have been easy in the previous government. Raul Castro in his speech stated that new generations in Cuba are tasked with continuing the mission to build socialism.

Government supporters insist the new constitution will bring strong changes to Cuba, but critics say that despite modifications, power will be refocused into the hands of the Communist Party. /Periscopi
