A powerful explosion is marked in downtown Paris on Saturday morning. The news is confirmed by police, which says the explosion occurred at Rue de Travis due to gas leaks in a bakery.
As local media reports quote sources from police, a palace is on fire and so far has been reported to four people dead, between them two firefighters and 32 injured, eight of them in serious condition. The explosion is reported to have resulted in numerous material damage, including the destruction of several cars, writes BW.
Police have called on citizens to avoid crossing into the area as much as possible because the danger is still present. Fire and panic in the area have resulted. Images after the explosion are posted on Twitter.
France's interior minister, who has expressed deep regret over the event, has arrived at the scene immediately. However, he has added further that the situation is under control. Witnesses at the scene have indicated that the explosion was extremely strong and that they had immediately heard people screaming and running in panic, foreign media reports.
