The weekend change of weather at the peak of the ski season triggered a series of dangerous avalanches across Austria.
Austrian media report that three people lost their lives, while many are considered missing because of snow deposits that have blocked many roads.
The victims, whose deaths have so far been confirmed, are a skier from Germany to the Voarlberg province and another German tourist at the popular Damüls ski resort near Brerenz.
The third confirmed victim is a 24-year-old Swiss who fell into a 20m-deep ditch off the ski trail and died, Kosovo Press broadcasts.
Due to heavy rainfall, snow in countries has reached altitudes of up to 60cm, while in mountains up to three feet [1 m].
Authorities have declared the alarm for risk from avalanches to level four, which is the second highest risk rate.
The biggest threat from snow avalanches has been announced in Austrian provinces Voarlberg, Tirol, Post Austria, Steyerska and Salzburg.
