Protesters gathered by the Alliance for Serbia, a grouping of 30 opposition political parties and organisations, shouted in the streets “Vuciq ven”, which thus marks the sixth protest in as many weeks, Reuters reports.
This opposition rally comes shortly before Russian President Vadicmir Putin's visit to Belgrade, expected to take place next Thursday, Koha.net broadcasts.
While Vuciqi says membership in the European Union remains Serbia's final goal, he maintains close ties with Russia, the old Slavic and Orthodox ally.
Putin's visit is seen as boosting the popularity of Vuciki and his ruling coalition, while supporters have organised a major rally Thursday to welcome the Russian president.
Protesters in Belgrade have accused Vucinqi of preparing a negotiated solution with Kosovo, who key to Serbia joining the EU.
“Vuccini makes compromises with everyone, with [Kosovo president Hashim] Thaci, with [Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush] Haradinaj, ... with all but honest people... This is a compromise for treason”, Kosovo Serb politician Rada Trajkovic said in front of the crowd.
Protesters also demanded that the government find the responsibility for the murder of Oliver Ivanovic, Kosovo Serb politician, killed a year ago. They also announced that they will gather in Belgrade next Wednesday in commemoration of his death.
