In 2018 there were 556 people who lost their lives in air accidents compared with 44 in 2017.
The worst air accident of 2018 was in October, when a Leon Air plane crashed in Indonesia, killing 189 people on board.
“Viti 2017 was the safest year in history for airline companies. Loss of control is a major concern for the aviation industry. At least 10 of the worst 25 accidents in the last five years have been the main cause of loss of control,”- said Director Forget Ranter.
