Accreditation hits Pristina University in the wrong place: Basic directions to lock

Callo.com has secured a list of JP branches, departments and programmes that have failed to pass the criteria of the State Council of Quality, the organ which accredits research programmes.

A total of 24 UP programmes have failed to pass the criteria of this Council, thus reducing the number of applications accredited to only 122. Consequently, anyone who had planned to study journalism, political science, Geodesi or Infermier at the University of Pristina, in the coming academic year should seek further solutions if the decisions of the State Council of Quality remain in force.

There are 13 programs on the list that haven't met the criteria of having three or four close field science doctors for a Bachelor-level study program.

Agriculture and Veterinary Faculty

Accreditation History

State Council of Quality under Kosovo Agency for Accreditation met in January this year  to decide on accrediting new programmes, reaccrediting and attracting them to public and private universities, among them for Pristina University “Hasan Pristina”.

During this meeting, KSC accredited 98 currency research programmes and attracted 13 more UP, while in the initial stage of app recognition, UP's had got the green light for 23 New Programs, but Rejected 11.

The reason for the withdrawal and rejection for accreditation of research programmes by the KSC was mainly due to the lack of close field doctors.

These KSC decisions prompted six public university reactors to come up with a joint statement, and among them the reactor Marjan Dema's MP, who demanded that KSC members be dismissed and their decisions be abolished, with the argument that KSC had favoured private universities in comparison to public ones, and that decisions for withdrawal and denial of accreditation had the education minister's background, Shyqiri Bytyqi for the closure of new public universities.

After this statement by the Rectors' Conference, the KSC had reacted to them, saying that they had fulfilled the criteria, so they had given one example to each of these universities of why they had not been accredited.

The reactor fight continued further at the Parliamentary Committee for Education, in which they demanded that their demands be met but found no understanding.

This commission also met with the KSC to ask for clarifications about their decisions, but KSC members demanded that these universities file complaints to the Acces Commission in AKA if they think there were violations.

Following the meeting they had with the head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, where she offered support to the Council members in their decisions, the Rectors' Conference announced that from January 29th they would be on a general strike until their demands were met, among other things, adding the request for the dismissal of the Minister of Education, Shyqiri Bytyqi.
