The number of war veterans is no greater than it was in September 1999. Even the figure of over 400,000 is enzyme and there's no way it is.
So said Kosovo Parliament Speaker in an interview for Kosovo Press, where he talked about lists that were veterans who have recently filed an indictment for 12 people.
Wessel says he trusts those who had command responsibilities and he doesn't want to talk numbers.
I will refer more to war commanders in operational zones and commander general who has spoken with that voice. I won't talk about numbers. I trust more those who had command responsibility. There are statistics, we have statistics in 1999, after the end of the war, period of transformation. It is now 19 years. In September 99, when the Kosovo Protection Corps was released, we had a list, at the same time they have veterans' organisations, they have operational zones, then, hopefully we're a lot of fighters who we've been to before. This number is equal to”, says Wessel.
The Speaker of the Parliament says the issue of freedom fighter's status should not become a topic and not be abused. According to him, the Kosovo Liberation Army and freedom fighters are the most holy part of Kosovo's sublimate sacrifice of the people.
According to him, the Kosovo Liberation Army cannot be seen without the people, while there is a message for true fighters but also for manipulators.
Wessel: Those who have been abused will receive their deserved answer
True warriors who are KLA should not feel at all vulnerable. The part that can be manipulated should be ashamed. It is not the status of the warrior who solves the social problem of our citizens. It's economic development that solves them, it's the prospect, because social status in most cases is a hostage to the economic development of those families who depend on social status. We should think more positively in this regard. Fighters don't get hurt, don't get hurt. Those who have abused will receive their well-deserved response, but nobody, even those who abuse this situation, which is not very positive, will receive their well-deserved response from our citizens. Kosovo has fought all war, all have been rescuers, but KLA fighters are not this number, which is”, says Wessel.
Finally, the Special Prosecutor has filed charges for 12 persons, members of the government commission to verify veterans' status, including ministers, as well as former commander KLA Agim Ceku.
Along with the prosecution, the prosecution has also published a list of over 20,000 names of people allegedly fake veterans.
