Water reduction alert over the next 20 years in Kosovo

The drought of 2013-2014, even though it caused many water problems in Kosovo, is being described as average. But if such droughts occur in the coming years, Kosovo will not be able to afford them. But if such droughts occur in the coming years, Kosovo will not be able to afford them.
The World Bank has made an estimated report that Kosovo over the next 20 years will face a reduction in water quantity. And the only way to get enough water is to create new accumulate resources.
According to the water masterplane, drafted in 1983, 17 new water accumulates must be built in Kosovo to cope with the needs of citizens, which are key to economic, energy, and industrial development in the country.
It is estimated that Kosovo has only 16% of the regional average of renewable water resources. In the next 20 years, it is expected that all water valleys in Kosovo (White Dr. Ibri, the Morava of Binca and Lepenci) will be faced with reduced water in proportion to demand. These are some of the findings of the new World Bank report for Kosovo.
Baton Begolli, political water adviser to the prime minister's office, one of the Master Plan's engineers, which remains as the only solution to the water problem that Kosovo is expected to face in the coming years, says that this major project has overwhelmed river degradation in Kosovo.
Avdi Gjonbalaj, a water expert in Kosovo who worked 20 years in drafting the water resources development strategy, says that the banking areas, like national resources, must be placed in defense that the accumulates are not lost.
Meanwhile, from the prime minister's office it becomes known that they are awaiting Hidrosystem's second report “Iber-Lepenc” that is designed to build accumulated dams in Nerodime, Fire or Enhance. /rtk
