Thaci secures those scared of Pandora's box: We'll put a heavy rock on him.

The president of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, has said that many of Kosovo's citizens can say how state we have deserved that our journey towards the UN, NATO and the EU to be different, easier, faster and no longer dependent on the peaceful agreement with Serbia. And for that, as [...]
And for that, as Thaci writes in an editorial sent to the media, “you are right in this position, but this is how regional and international reality imposes the agreement on normalisation for both states as the necessary condition for membership in the European Union”.
The agreement can only be reached if the parties compromise. You can say again that Kosovo has already made all compromises painful. I still agree with you. But the reality is even more stubborn than our arguments. Recognition by Serbia has become the primary obstacle to our Euro-Atlantic journey”, President Thaci has written further.
He also says one can say that Serbia should recognise Kosovo unconditionally and within these borders.
I want the same thing. But do you think we will convince Serbia to do so soon? Unfortunately, no. But the EU and our powerful allies: The US, Germany, England, France, Italy and many others, do you think they will convince Serbia to recognise Kosovo? Again, no. They have not been able to convince him to do so until now, and they cannot guarantee that they will do it tomorrow or in the near future. As a result, the responsibility lies with us”.
To achieve this goal, I have proposed the border correction option with Serbia. I have argued that the eventual peace-reforming agreement on the border with Serbia, Kosovo ensures recognition by Serbia and the association of Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja with our country. I've been waiting for rational arguments, but until now I've heard more noise and, at worst, hate. Kosovo is a very small place to produce so much hatred, which divides our society”, has written, among other things, Thaci.

Peaceful correction of the border between Kosovo, Serbia
I am sure that in Kosovo politics, the citizens of Kosovo, there is no doubt that we, as Kosovo institutional leaders, should work together in order that within a short period of time, we end talks with Serbia, signing the agreement on full normalisation of relations between the two states.
We have fought against violent occupation by Serbia and gained freedom in June 1999. This story is known to all of us because it has united all Albanians and Kosovo with the West, primarily with the US, the Atlantic Alliance and the EU.
We, together with our allies, managed to make Kosovo a state in February 2008 and have since been recognised by 116 countries worldwide.
However, all of us know very well that the long-term stability of the state of Kosovo is inevitable related to Kosovo's membership as a state in the UN, the NATO Pact and the EU.
In this way, Kosovo will forever be a stable state, a member of the UN family of peace - loving nations, a member of the most powerful military alliance in the world, NATO, as well as members of the European Union.
We cannot achieve these goals, we cannot permanently seal Kosovo's destiny as a state if in the coming months we will not make the agreement legally binding with Serbia.
Many of you can say that as a state we've earned our journey to the UN, NATO and the EU to be different, easier, faster and no longer dependent on the peaceful agreement with Serbia. You are right in this position of yours, but it is that regional and international reality imposes the agreement on normalisation for both states as the necessary condition for membership in the European Union.
The deal can only be reached if the parties compromise. You can say again that Kosovo has already made all compromises painful. I still agree with you. But the reality is even more stubborn than our arguments. Recognition by Serbia has become the primary obstacle to our Euro-Atlantic journey.
One could say that Serbia should recognise Kosovo unconditionally and within these borders. As a result, our responsibility lies with us.
To achieve that goal, I have proposed the border correction option with Serbia. Kosovo is a very small place to produce so much hatred, which divides our society.
We now all know that Kosovo has always been treated as a special case or wayGeneres, at the large international company of resolving any process around it. In this context, the struggle for freedom, the humanitarian intervention of NATO, Kosovo's declaration of independence co-ordinated with the international community, supervised independence and statehood, are just some of the features that have caused Kosovo to be treated as a special case. Local and international dilemmas have accompanied all these processes. Thus, on the eve of the declaration of independence, there were concerns that Kosovo could serve as a precedent for countries or other regions in the world. But such concerns proved inaccurate. Also, another major concern was the fear of the mass ecstasy of the Serb community living in Kosovo, shortly after the proclamation of independence. Such prejudice also proved wrong.
Kosovo is now an independent state and we are in the final phase of construction. But there are dilemmas, just like before. Surprisingly, at a time when Kosovo has opened up the possibility of reaching peaceful agreements with Serbia, flashing and in many ways, raise unstable concerns. Skeptics, today together again, have come together to oppose the real option of peaceful border correction with Serbia, as the possibility of mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia. I repeat: Restruction of the border between Kosovo and Serbia, as two independent states, which will recognise each other as states, will be an integral part of the 430km-long border demarcation.
Suspects in the legally binding agreement between Kosovo and Serbia are easily spreading fears for allegedly destabilising the region and deepening ethnic division in the Balkans. They're creating panic and fog, making up the same arguments, just like on the eve of declaring independence.
I have high regard for all those who are rationally involved in this debate, but those who produce only noise and panic, I regret to say they are wrong.
In the past few days, I have had very important meetings with leading politicians of neighbouring countries in the region. First I met Ilir Meta, the president of Albania, then in Podgorica I was hosted by Milo Djukanovic, the president of Montenegro, and finally I talked to Zoran Zaev, the prime minister of Macedonia.
In all these friendly and frank talks, I let them know of our goal of the agreement with Serbia, ending the enmity over a century and maintaining stability in this part of the Balkans, but also our goal to deepen further co-operation and friendship with all countries in the region.
The peaceful agreement based on the correction of the border between Kosovo and Serbia, if achieved, will be entirely in line with international law. Such an agreement, Kosovo ensures formal recognition by Serbia, provides Presheva, Medvedja's Bujanoc, and paves the way for EU, NATO and UN membership, thus strengthening stability and closing the last course of conflict in the Balkans.
Hence, skeptics in this agreement can assure that there will now be no correction of the border along ethnic lines, no ecstasy of the population, and no domino effect on the stability of this side of Europe.
Moreover, this peaceful agreement will lay a heavy stone on the so-called “Content of Pandora”, which these days are being spoken of with many passions. And if one certainly argues and refers to a final agreement on the peaceful correction of the border as precedent, then this case could really be used in the future as a positive precedent necessary to resolve interstate disputes only peacefully and not in a war.
Time of wars and conflicts between Kosovo and Serbia, for my obedience, has passed. But the end of this era will only be found when we make the final peaceful agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.
