Although it has failed, the planned meeting between Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and Serbia's Aleksandar Vuciq has prompted many reactions in Pristina, mainly from the opposition company.
They say Thaci has again erred with his actions, since, according to them, before going to Brussels, Thaci has had to reach a comprehensive consensus of the political spectrum in Kosovo.
Democratic League of Kosovo MP Arben Gashi tells Radio Free Europe that Thaci without the consent of the Kosovo Parliament has not had to leave for Brussels.
Mr. Thaci's actions regarding dialogue are individualistic actions in terms of Kosovo's view and political organisation, because the Constitution of Kosovo does not allow it to deal with that process, especially if its declarations for exchange of territory are taken into account or for correcting the borders of Kosovo” are taken into account.
Kosovo's “Constitution is quite explosive at this point, so without receiving the Parliament's consent, Mr Thaci could not go to Brussels. Many Kosovo Albanian deputies oppose Mr. Thaci's actions, and his rightfulness is curtailed. His actions are suspicious as well, and under these circumstances, he has no political and legal capital to go to talks in Brussels”, Gashi says.
Even Kosovo Parliament deputy Mimoza Kusari- Lila, at the same time opposition party chairman, Alternative, says President Thaci is doing wrong in terms of political dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Kusari-Lila said that from the form and way he has approached dialogue, suggests he is on a Kamikaz mission to his post.
This is the chain of mistakes the president made in relation to dialogue with Serbia. It has been a serious mistake this time in the fact that even in political terms there has been nothing, much less already when government efforts to have a negotiating team have failed. But, also, even for the fact that he already has no mandate, there is no platform and there is no clear guide from the country's highest institution [the Parliament] to negotiate with Vuciqih”, Kusari-Lila points out.
On the other hand, Serbia's prime minister, Ana Brnabiq, through a statement, begged the international community not to “test Serbia's” patience and not its understanding when it comes to the Kosovo issue, but to understand the seriousness of the situation and to act in harmony with it.
The Serbian prime minister stressed that great patience is needed to negotiate with current Albanian representatives who, according to her, are irresponsible, unpredictable and do not respect the agreements reached.
The Serbian prime minister's statement takes place shortly after President Aleksandar Vuciq cancelled his meeting in Brussels with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci.
Serbian authorities said the response to the Pristina authorities to Vuciqi was due to his request to visit the northern part of Kosovo and stop visiting Lake Weyman as well.
In Brussels, it has failed to hold a meeting between Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and Serbia's Aleksandar Vuciq. The failure to hold the meeting, according to the delegation's clarification from Serbia, was the lack of permission from Kosovo authorities, which Serbian President Vuciq, during his scheduled stay in Kosovo.
In contrast, Kosovo political dialogue process recognition Serbia, analyst Life Krasniqi from the Kosovo Democratic Institute, tells Radio Free Europe that Serbia must give up playing the victim's role.
She says Serbia should really testify that its leadership has reformed as it claims, and that this leadership is willing to act on the principles and values of democracy.
Serbia must know and recognise the fact that it has committed crimes against humanity and genocide, both in Kosovo and Bosnia, and should take on its responsibilities and seek forgiveness. Kosovo- Serbia must be a process that builds peace and stability between the two countries, but also in the region. And, the only way is to sit down and talk and recognize the reality that Kosovo is an independent state. Dialogue is the only way for lasting peace in the region. The parties must be returned to the” meetings, Krasniqi says.
Political talks between Kosovo and Serbia with the ease of the European Union have started since 2011, and are aimed at normalising reports between the two states.
