John Burns Johnson, 73, of Lafayette, performed heart surgery in Tristar. And when the intervention for nine hours ended, Dr. Sreecumar Submanian, he realized that not all his needles were removed.
The surgeon reopened the sewing and Johnson had another three-hour operation, but he couldn't get rid of the needle.
The indictment says that the surgeon closed the wound behind his needle, and she does not remove it until the day of autopsy.
Johnson passed away a month after heart surgery.
The indictment also states that the last month of his life was painful, unnecessary, and wrong.
The indictment was filed by Johnson's widow, son and daughter.
