“This way, you are trying to protect the family meeting tradition on Sunday”, Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio said.
In an effort to encourage the country's economic development, Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti liberalised shopping at shopping centres in 2012, despite pressure from the Catholic Church and trade unions that advised them to maintain a family tradition.
This liberalisation actually destroys the Italian family”, said Di Maio, head of the Five Star Movement.
“We should limit the working hours of the mall,” he told reporters.
Early in the year, the conservative Polish government limited the work of shopping malls on Sundays.
