Spain opposes correction of Kosovo- Serbia

Negotiations on a reconciliation solution between Kosovo and Serbia have entered a crucial gas, and both countries aspire to membership in the European Union. But the project can be met with resistance, among other countries, from Spain, which is one of five EU partners that do not recognise Kosovo's independence. None of the Spanish governments [...]
None of the Spanish governments have linked their controversy to the political situation in Catalonia or the Bask region, but most analysts attribute this government's stance to fears of Spain's precedane unilateral divisions and their subsequent EU membership.
The European Commission, acting as a mediator between Pristina and Belgrade on Friday we left behind in Vienna, during an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, said it hopes to close this issue within months that would mark the last chapter of Yugoslavia's bloody division, from which the unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence stems, “reports. The Spanish government will reject any agreement between Kosovo and Serbia that, on the basis, has the division of territories on ethnic grounds.
So said the Spanish delegation, which stayed in Vienna on Friday, the delegation, led by Foreign Minister Josep Borrell.
“ElPais” said Borrell after the meeting in the Austrian capital. “But solutions that are based on ethnic division of territories raise many logical reserves”, the Spanish minister added, broadcast Koha.net.
The newspaper also writes that Spanish grief is shared by several other European partners who fear that Serbia and Kosovo will shake up the Balkan map once again and disrupt the stability also the fragility that has reigned there since the end of the wars in 1999.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has warned in Vienna that the exchange of territories “could reopen many old wounds among the populations, and for that we are very skeptical of this” proposal, referring to the proposal of the presidents Thaci and Vuciq who openly appeared at last week's Vienna meeting.
The Spanish daily stresses that redefining borders on ethnic grounds could also boost division in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Serb population is majority in the Republika Srpska area. A frightening dominoes can restore the Balkan region again 20 years after the recent massacres and bloody processes of ethnic cleansing.
Both Thaci and Vucci were witnesses and protagonists of these terrible episodes. The Serbian president was active in an ultra-nationalist formation and was also minister during the war in Kosovo. Kosovo leader led the Kosovo Liberation Army, a group that fought for independence from Serbia, broadcasts Koha.net.
Now both seem willing to change pages to give European perspectives to their respective countries, even at the risk of shaking the hornet's nest again and provoke anger to some European countries, who fear serious geostrategic consequences.
One of the most verbal groups is Spain, whose refusal to recognise Kosovo has been applauded so far by Belgrade. But the Spanish stance could be compromised if the Serbian government decides on the issue itself. Romania, which along with Spain, Greece, Slovakia and Cyprus, represents the five EU sides that do not recognise Kosovo, has already acknowledged that it could change its stance if Serbia agrees with the territory it had cut off 10 years ago.
European Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn said in Vienna that the first “must be done is let countries in the region find a solution and then Spain will decide”. “We will not be more pope than Pope”, Borrell said, although he has expressed his displeasure over the possible border correction agreement, concludes “ElPais”
