The seven soldiers were killed “during intense clashes”, as they had raided a place where militants were hiding in the Ghjarman area and Spera Kunar, Pakistan's military said. The army also announced that militants were killed during the battle.
Pakistan's military said the area has already been cleared by militants.
The Northern Vatican region is no longer controlled by Pakistani Taliban or other militant groups. However, the militant group Islamic State by 2014 has had considerable presence in this region, but after offensive by the Pakistani military, most of the militants have fled to Afghanistan.
Pakistan is under pressure from US President Donald Trump, who has accused Islamabad of offering shelter to militants in the country. Washington has attracted hundreds of millions of dollars in military assistance, citing Pakistan's anti-terrorist actions as a reason.
Pakistan rejects these accusations and says it is doing enough in the fight against terrorism.
